Melissa Abecassis is a relationship coach, therapist, and psychodynamic counsellor, offering sessions in English, Swedish, and French. She welcomes individuals, couples, and other relationship constellations seeking clarity, connection, and meaningful change. She holds a diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling from Birkbeck University in London, a Relational Dynamic Coaching certification (ILM), and certification in the Ilan Lev Method – a movement therapy. She is completing studies in Psychosynthesis Integrative Relationship Therapy at Humanova. Growing up with several languages, nationalities, and cultures, Melissa developed a deep curiosity for people who live “in-between” worlds – often migrants, multicultural, or on unconventional paths. She supports clients in building a stronger connection to self, cultivating a kinder internal voice, understanding boundaries, and exploring the roots of their wounds and stories. Her trauma-sensitive approach is informed by her studies in Compassionate Inquiry, Dr. Gabor Maté’s training on uncovering the patterns beneath mental and physical health challenges. A former mediator, she draws on reconciliation methods, systemic thinking, and the belief that we grow through the quality of our relationships. Collaboration and collective wisdom are central to her work, whether helping couples communicate better, navigating separation with compassion, or guiding groups to address complex dynamics. Melissa’s practice is heart-based and somatic, often integrating expressive arts, movement, storytelling, and ritual into the therapeutic process. Passionate about migration stories and cultural belonging, she welcomes the wisdom of heritage and the creativity of reinvention. Alongside her private practice, she facilitates monthly dance meditation classes in Stockholm – spaces where movement, presence, and self-expression open the door to deeper connection with self, others, and the world.

Mondays in Gamla Stan, I host a dance meditation.

Often words fail me, these days especially. Yet, it is not a new experience, I often find words are not enough. (I wrote a poem about it once, but that is a sharing for another time).

There is something in the translation that gets lost.

The translation of my internal world to the external world.

The translation of the world that exist between me and you, between us and nature, between us and life?

This relational sphere has a language, it has a movement, a pulse, a dialogue, an engagement where we are alive and with.

This for me is the role of dance...in my life. Arts in general, yet dance is the language my soul speaks the most fluently.

So when I say things like, everything has a dance, all life experiences has a movement, a rhythm - this is what I try to express.

That in the dance there is a language that is vast, that has an infinite amount of vocabulary. A language I believe we are born with and in safe conditions we can start to remember.

This is my invitation to you, to us:

Come and remember with me, one of our original mother tongues - helping eachother to remember. To remember what home feels like.

Dancing our way home 💛

Monday's (fortnightly in gamla stan)

Come dance your rhythm.

A simple welcoming space where we gently give the body an opportunity to speak its movement. To let go of the head for a while and giving the mind a rest from its leading position and follow the language of our bodies.

For no particular reason other than that it feels really good to listen to the body.

Truly one of the most joyful things to do in life is to get lost in the woods with the only sounds being the raffle of the leafs as the wind swooshes through the trees. Not knowing where you are but somehow knowing intuitively where to go... Following the guidance of nature and letting go for a bit of reasoning.... And yes behind that tree ...

Little surprises along the way, forest jewels of all sorts, some can be spotted from far and some truly hidden. ... diversity in a multitude.

Mushroom season is one of my favourites, the wisdom of the forest is incredible. The mosses, the fungi with all their secrets.

And what makes it even better is to do it with beloved friends who have their hearts open, their eyes full of magic and their bodies full of celebratory trumpet mushroom dances.

Highly recommend as a therapeutic method. Get yourself out to the forest, walk, get yourself lost, dance, scream, shed some tears.... The forest people can hold it all.

I love this quote.

I so often find myself so stuck in logic, practicality and thought that I forgot the validity of enchantment.

So many of my clients also put the thoughts on a pedestal and forget the body.

Dance can be such a sweet tool to come into enchantment, as well as giving the body a space to speak and tell us it's story.

Did you know that I worked in schools for many years as a Wellbeing Practitioner?

The amount of teens I met that came with a glimmer in their eyes, passion in their heart and excitement to learn and turned hazy eyed, slouchy and depressed....

The amount of teachers I met use to love teaching, that deeply care about education and teenagers future who worked over time, felt trapped by the system and adopted behaviours against their own values and many burned out and eventually quit by choice or forced by illness.

The amount of education governing bodies I met who were part of designing curriculums, policies and operating procedures who had not stepped into a school or classroom for years, who had not reflected a second on asking teens and teachers how they are.....

A system that has not changed for 150 years, a system that is far from serving its purpose. I have so much empathy for parents, teachers and teens trying to navigating education.

Wednesday Addams line in the new Netflix series captures it beautifully with a bit of humour 💛

"I'm not sure whose twisted idea it was to put hundreds of adolescents in underfunded schools run by people whose dreams were crushed years ago... but I admire the sadism".

Thanks norabateson for pointing it out.

"Magnanimous" is a beautiful word that often describes someone who is big-hearted, generous, and forgiving. This quality is often associated with nobility, honor, and graciousness, and is seen as a desirable trait in a person.

In therapy and self-discovery work, we can strive to embody this magnanimous spirit, towards ourselves as well as others. By embracing this quality, we can deepen our connection with ourselves and others, and work towards creating a more loving and compassionate world.
