"Consensus was reached in providing uniform definitions for static stretching, dynamic stretching, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation.

Stretching is recommended to improve range of motion, both acutely (single session) and chronically (long-term training), although alternative interventions (e.g., resistance training) are available.

Stretching acutely and chronically reduces muscle stiffness, but it is questionable whether this is a desirable goal.

Stretching seems largely inefficient as a post-exercise recovery strategy.

Stretching does not reduce overall injury risk. In some cases, it may reduce the risk of muscle injuries but with the possibility that it may be compensated for with more bone and joint injuries.

Stretching may produce small effects on chronic strength gains and muscle hypertrophy but requires high doses and is much less effective than resistance training for this effect.

There are potential benefits of stretching for the cardiovascular system, but more research is required before clinical recommendations can be issued.

A while ago I had the wonderful honour to meet Mingyur Rinpoche, one of the most inspiring mediation teacher, and the privilege to ask a very personal question about maintaining the boundaries of altruism and basic innate goodness. 

His answer: “We need to find balance in order to help others and create a peaceful world. This is often called Self-Compassion and Self-Love. It is like a circle. Help yourself through peace, awareness, compassion, and wisdom to be able to help others more profound and effectual.”

One month in Okinawa to study Ikigai, and this island really grew close to my heart. I wanted to share my experiences on the Okinawan secret to a long and happy life.

- Don't retire: 93 yr old yoga practitioner started 20 yrs ago and is way more flexible than me, volunteer, write a book
- Okinawa Time: take a lunch nap in the grass, take it slow, there is no hurry, traditional sanchin music
- Don't fill your stomach: mugwort soba, beni imo, shikuwasa, sugar cane
- Surround yourself with good friends: share fruits from the garden, the car, and culture
- Get in shape: Okinawan KarateDo UechiRyu Zankai - the birthplace of traditional karate, Butterfly Pea Tea
- Smile: on the street, everyone is a brother or sister - look them in the eyes and greet "Haisai"
- Reconnect with nature: sand between your toes, garden patch, cats, banana & papaya madness
- Give thanks: gochisousama deshita, share all you've got, food, car, things
- Live in the moment: we don't know about tomorrow, ichi-go ichi-e, here and now
- Follow your ikigai: share the best of you until the very end

Tsubokiri Matcha - Autumn Matcha Blend from Marukyu-Koyamaen - a rare item with a special history.

"In late October or the beginning of November, the seal of the jar with new tea plucked in spring is ritually broken, and the new tea is used for the first time. The ritual of breaking this seal of the tea jar is called tsubokiri."

Today was an honor to spend time at chanoyu.shop and learn so much about Matcha. Whenever you are in Fukuoka, you have to check their fantastic matcha selection and equipment. It was a heartwarming experience to get down to the nitty-gritty of Matcha preparation 🍵 arigatō gozaimashita 🙏
